Tiara Dinner

Last night was one of many tiara dinners.  I invite lots of friends and enjoy seeing who will show up.  There are some regulars for sure, and sometimes we get a newbie.  The newbies always look a little unsure of what is going on.  Let me explain.

On a regular tiara dinner, a group of my girlfriends meet for dinner and then go for ice cream.  We do this with a dress code and a tiara on top.  Some dress codes have included "Pretty in Pink," and "Denim and Diamonds," not to mention "Red, White, and Bling."

Last night was supposed to be LBD (little black dress) but it was just too hot.  I broke down and gave the option of just being comfortable.  One friend also introduced a fascinator as an option to the tiara.  We met at a fun restaurant and then went to a cool coffee shop.  It was anything but cool at probably 100 degrees at 9pm.

At this dinner, I introduced the jewelry boxes with gems more valuable than jewelry.  I hand wrote three scriptures for each lady to remind them of their royal status.

John 1:12 "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name."  This verse shows us that we have been given a right - the right to be children of the King!

Ephesians 1:4 "He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him."  Here we are told that before we had a chance to receive Him, he already had us picked out.  How exciting is the news that the King took notice of us and picked us first!

James 4:7 "Submit yourselves therefore to God.  Resist the devil and he will flee from you."  As we claim our royal status in relationship with the King, we will gain the strength to resist the devil.  That is power!  Claim it!

Even more exciting than parading around in tiaras is the chance for people to ask us why we are doing it.  This time I actually had something to hand to a young lady because I had extra jewelry boxes to share.  I told her about the gems inside by explaining that they were part of our royal heritage.

It was a fabulous evening!

What Do Students Want?

What Students Want - from http://www.mangrum-strichart.com/teaching-strategies/

8/8/2011

You look for certain characteristics when you buy a product. Students don`t "buy" their teachers. But there are certain characteristics they would like their teachers to have.

Students would like their teachers to:
  • listen to them
  • treat everyone fairly
  • respect them
  • be enthusiastic
  • be understanding
Most importantly, students would like their teachers to:
  • know their subject matter
  • help them learn
  • make learning enjoyable
Teachers who have these characteristics are successful teachers.
